Non-Market Real Estate Strategy & Action Plan highlights

Action Plan highlights, July 2017:

The first major step has been completed in developing a Non-Market Real Estate Strategy which is outlined as a specific initiative in the CHAC Action Plan. On behalf of the collective, Calgary Homeless Foundation engaged Steve Pomeroy at Focus Consulting Inc. to undertake a scoping assessment and the outcomes were recently presented to the Steering Committee. The Non-Market Real Estate Strategy is intended to enable funders, owners and operators to identify, optimize and leverage their own and sector assets in order to help preserve and expand non-market housing opportunities in the city. As part of our Common Voice initiative, Horizon Housing Society has engaged a consultant to assist with proactively informing candidates for the municipal election. We are currently preparing informational materials about the collective and housing in our city. The aim is to drive awareness, credibility and value of CHAC among candidates as a go-to source for all things related to housing affordability and to proactively engage candidates in dialogue and discussion on policy issues. Keep an eye out for information on upcoming initiatives with candidates. To get involved, please contact Horizon Housing Society...

We are also pleased to report that Calgary City Council provided approval for the 'One Window' project to move on to the next phase of work. Once completed, a centralized entry point will eliminate the need for applicants to submit information multiple times to different housing providers in the city. Thanks to those who submitted letters and attended Council to show support.
