Speaker Bio - Tim welch

Tim Welch is president of TWC, a nine person housing development and policy firm based in Cambridge and Toronto.  TWC has supported the creation of over 30 new affordable rental housing developments in the last 11 years (with 7 developments currently under construction) and has carried out housing policy research for municipalities and housing sector organizations. 

Before establishing TWC in 2003, Tim held a variety of positions in the housing field including Housing Programs Manager for the Region of Waterloo. He has a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Carleton University.

TWC has researched collaborations and partnerships involving private sector developers and non-profit housing providers and has also been directly involved as development consultant on non-profit/private sector collaborations.

Collaboration on affordable housing between the private and non-profit sector.

Collaborations or partnerships between “passionate” housing providers/proponents and “knowledgeable” private sector developers/builders is often held up as an ideal way to increase the supply of affordable housing.  This presentation will look at what are the ingredients for a successful (and sometimes not successful) collaboration based on both research and direct experience with collaborations.
